With checks completed and to the best of our knowledge Darren Whitfield set a new amateur course record for the blue tees with a 63 gross last Sunday in the second round of the club championship qualifying. With a solid 33 shots for the front 9 the foundations were set for another good score to accompany his morning round of 69. When the dust settled on a blistering last 5 holes which saw a run of straight birdies to finish (2,4,2,3,4) for a back 9 of 30 a 63 had been returned. Darrens total of 132 saw him lead the qualifiers by 9 shots from Mike Parker (141). In total 16 players have qualified for the matchplay stages which will see the final played on the 4th September.
