Item 1-Apologies-Bernard Riley and Harvey Barclay, junior Captain.
Item 2-Previous minutes of 12 October 2021 were agreed and there were no matters arising.
Item 3-Election of Chair
John Sheffield was elected chair of the junior section for 2022. He took the opportunity to welcome Scott Cameron, Chair of the Management Committee to the meeting. He also hoped that 2022 would be a much better year for the juniors given what the country has had to face with the pandemic. The junior section is very important to the club and hard work will be needed to encourage and retain junior golfers. He was very grateful for the support of the rest of the junior committee. He wished Harvey Barclay the very best of luck in his year as junior captain.
Item 4-Safeguarding
PP indicated that the Safe Golf accreditation had been regained for the club until 2023. This is a maandatory requirement by England Golf for all golf clubs. Thanks were extended to AS and also Michael Williamson, CWO. Safeguarding must remain a key priority for the club at all levels.
Item 5-Junior Coaching Plan 2022
A draft junior coaching plan kindly prepared by AS was discussed.This would see coaching commencing on 11th April 2022 and split into three blocks with no coaching on bank holidays. There would be a charge for individual blocks of coaching or a one off for the full season. AS reported that there had been limited engagement with winter coaching. PP suggested that more work should be done in local schools and AS will prepare some further recommendations on this. The club will also support the Tri-golf events arranged by Eden Valley Sports Partnership.
Item 6-Golf Girls Rocks
An application has been made to England Golf for Penrith to be considered as a potential venue for Golf Girls Rocks in 2022. The pandemic has interfered in the last two years when Penrith was chosen by England Golf to host this important initiative. It is a great opportunity to encourage girls to take up the game and there has been very good support from the Ladies section with previous programmes. A further update will be provided once a decision has been taken.
Item 7-Junior Competitions 2022
It was agreed that some Saturday and mid-week dates will be selected for the junior competitions and it is hoped that these will be better supported this year. It was agreed to host the Penrith Junior Open on Monday 30th May 2022. This was during a school holiday period to try and seek better entries.
Item 8-Junior Team 2022
At this stage it is unclear whether the county junior inter- team league will be in place. If it does not materialise it was suggested that friendly matches could be played against some local clubs so that the juniors would gain experience from competitive golf.
Item 9-Delayed AGM 2021
It was agreed that the most beneficial way forward would be to have a parents evening to outline plans for 2022. The date would be Friday 1 April 2022 at 6.30pm. A normal Junior AGM for 2022 would take place later in the year.
Item 10-Junior Fundraiser 2022
This will take place on Friday 29th April 2022. It will follow a similar format to previous years and further details will be published to all members in due course.
Item 11-Finance for Junior section
JS reported the current balance of the junior account and stressed the importance of fundraising for the junior section. He will provide the Chair of the MC with a summary of junior costings for his information. SC also indicated that he was investigating sources of external funding and junior development would be an integral part of any bids. This was very much appreciated by the junior committee.
Item 12-Any other matters
JS suggested that it would be helpful if there was a parent represented on the junior committee. This was agreed by all as a good suggestion and JS will progress this matter.
Item 13-Date of next meeting.
The date of the next meeting will be Monday 21 March 2022 at 5pm in the clubhouse.
