Item 6-Coaching update
Coaching has commenced at Langwathby School for six sessions and North Lakes will also begin in October.
Confirmation has now been received from Eden Valley Sports Partnership that the Tri-golf event will be held at Penrith Leisure Centre on Monday 28 November 2022. It is hoped at this stage that there will be a morning and afternoon session. The format will be as in previous events. PP to clarify number of primary schools attending.
Coaching has now been completed on Monday evenings. Generally it has gone well but it is hoped some activities can be arranged for juniors during the next school half term. CM and AS to consider suitable activity.
It was suggested that a coaching plan be prepared for 2023 so that there is more clarity on the work that is going to take place. PB MD and CM to report back when a draft coaching plan has been formulated. The response to junior competitions has not been great and it was agreed that some initiatives should be taken to try and improve communication to juniors. A suggestion was made to use an APP named SPOND which can be used to notify juniors and parents of relevant dates with coaching and competitions. It has an accept and decline facility. AS and MD to assess and report back in due course.
Item 7-Junior team
The junior team deserve real praise for their efforts throughout the season. 4 matches have been played to date with a further two matches still to complete. The Chair thanked Andrew Sowerby, Harvey Barclay, junior captain and other helpers for ensuring that competitive matches are in place for the juniors.
It was also noted that Rikki from Fairways Catering had provided meals for the juniors at matches at no cost and also reduced prices for juniors after coaching on Monday evenings. This was very much appreciated by the junior committee and was a very generous and kind gesture.
Congratulations were also given to Ellis McAuley who has represented the county on four occasions during the year. Well done Ellis and keep up the great golf.
Item 8-Junior AGM 2022
This year’s junior AGM will take place on 21 October 2022 at 6.30pm in the clubhouse. An agenda will be prepared and notification also provided to all members who may be interested in attending and supporting the junior section.
Item 9-Finance
The junior section has very much been self-sufficient in funding junior golf at the club. This was due largely to the successful annual fund raising day held earlier in the year. This had been well supported by members. The Chair will however approach the Financial Manager to seek the promised contribution that was made to the junior section and which will help in the delivery of junior golf going forward.
It was also suggested that other external funding should be sought. England Golf and the Golf Foundation were mentioned. AS will contact Andy Leigh from the Golf Foundation to identify any possible sources of funding going forward.
Item 10-Any other matters
Clarification was sought on the Father and Son competition and two dates have been identified in October.
There was further discussion on the purchase of clubs/bags which has been possible by a very kind donation to the junior section from the family of the late Keith Raine.
The Chair thanked all the junior committee for their work throughout the year and it was good to see new members coming forward to assist. Mike Dixon a new junior committee member was warmly welcomed. He also extended warm praise for the excellent work undertaken by Harvey Barclay this year’s junior captain.
Reference was made to a junior team photograph which was available showing the members in their new shirts. AS will prepare a suitable feature for the Herald once the junior fixtures have been completed.
Item 11-Date of next meeting.
There was no specific date fixed for the next team meeting. It was agreed that the Junior AGM should be held first.
