JUNIOR UPDATE
The new golfing season for our junior golfers will start soon. After a disrupted two years it will be good to see juniors trying to improve and enjoy the game.
On Monday 4th April 2022 at 6.30pm a Parents evening will be held in the club house. This will provide a good opportunity for parents, relatives, juniors and friends to learn what will be on offer at the club in the year ahead. Please encourage juniors to attend whether it is children, grandchildren or others wishing to take up golf.
The actual coaching for juniors will commence on Monday 11th April 2022 at 5.30pm. It will continue at the same time on Monday evenings except bank holidays. Just pop up to the club and you will be made most welcome. Coaching will be led by Andrew Sowerby our professional together with PGA level 1 coaches and other club volunteers.
There will also be a good opportunity ahead for girls between 7 and 18 shortly as the club has been chosen by England Golf to host the Golf Girl’s Rocks programme. We are still awaiting confirmation of starting dates but further details will be circulated in due course. You can register early interest by contacting Andrew on 01768 891919 or e mail professional@penrithgolfclub.co.uk
The junior committee this year is chaired by John Sheffield and other members are Chris Malpas, Bernard Riley, Barry Rogers, Ingrid Mutch, Phil Park, Andrew Sowerby-Professional and John McAuley who has joined the committee for the first time as a parent’s representative. Harvey Barclay our junior captain also attends meetings.
Our junior fundraiser this year will take place on Friday 29th April 2022 and members have supported this so well in the past. The format will be teams of 4 with entry at £20 per team. Max handicap 36. Tee times will be flexible so that members can play at a time suitable to them. Individual holes can also be sponsored at £20 per hole. Please speak with Andrew in the professional shop if you would like to sponsor a hole.
We have some very promising young golfers in the club and it will be important to try and encourage them when you can. They are the future of our club.
Once again thank you for your support. It is very much appreciated.
Phil Park, MBE
