The Chair welcomed everyone to the meeting and gave a special welcome to John McAuley who had agreed to be part of the junior committee as a parent’s representative. He hoped that it would be good year for junior golf at the club. He also wished Harvey Barclay, Junior Captain the very best of luck.
Item 1-Apologies were received from Bernard Riley and Ingrid Mutch.
Item 2-Minutes of last meeting held on 7 February 2022 were agreed.
Item 3-Matters arising-there were no matters arising.
Item 4-Safeguarding-whilst there were no specific issues raised PP will contact Michael Williamson, Club Welfare officer to ensure that safeguarding register is fully up to date going forward into 2022 season of golf.
Item 5-Junior Coaching-It will commence on Monday 11th April 2022. It will run in blocks of 5 weeks through till mid-September. An approach has been made to a number of local primary schools and two secondary schools to offer junior golf coaching. 2 primary schools have so far taken up this offer. JM highlighted the importance of juniors gaining experience on the course and playing match play conditions. Course management for juniors is also seen as important. There had been some take up from junior golf members with the free coaching sessions which was good to see. PP will prepare a feature for the Herald highlighting the opportunities for junior golf at the club in the year ahead.
Item 6-Parents evening-this will now take place on Monday 4th April 2022 at 6.30pm. It will provide an opportunity to outline to parents and relatives what is on offer at the club for juniors. There was abroad discussion on how best to advertise this event which should include club website, posters and social media. Prize giving will also take place on this date and AS will approach club captains to see if they are available to attend. Further thought needs to be given to the two special awards that are included in the list of prizes namely Alistair Mayne award and Dad’s Army prize.
Item 7-Golf Girls Rocks 2022-the club is still awaiting the dates for commencing this year’s programme from England Golf. It will include girls from aged 5-18 years. Further details will be circulated in due course.
Item 8-Junior Team 2022-the matches this year will be against Workington, Carlisle and Brampton.
Item 9-Junior fundraiser-This is to take place on Friday 29 April 2022. Teams of 4 @ £20 per team. Flexible tee times all day to ensure that members have the opportunity to support junior golf. Sponsorship of the holes to be available at £20. Handicap allowance Max 36. AS to approach Club Captain’s together with Dads Army and Ladies section to seek as much support as possible
Item 10-Finance for junior section-JS outlined the current position with regard to the junior section. He will make an approach to the Management Committee to seek a grant of £500 to enable the junior section to deliver its objectives. It is also hoped that the junior fundraiser will be successful.
